Select up to three fields to search with the dropdown menus below.
In this advanced search you may search specific fields with key words or phrases. You may also enter just a portion of the key word, for a broader search. Wild-card symbols are not required.
The single locus disorders and disorders characterised at a molecular level do not require a key word for their search. Selecting one of these alone will find matching disorders in all species. To refine the search further you should also select a species name.
Searching for an author name will retrieve all of the traits or diseases that have been linked to papers by that author. Author names are most commonly in the format "Smith, P.J.", but in some instances there are no full stops between initials and the format is "Smith, PJ". A search for "Smith", or "Smith, P" would retrieve entries in both formats.
The OMIA database has also classified some diseases or traits into categories. These categories can be searched for using the "Disease category" option in the drop-down menus. The current disease categories available for search are: Inborn error of metabolism, Dwarfism, Congenital heart disease, Inherited bleeding disorder, and Lysosomal storage disease. Enter enough letters from the category to identify it uniquely in the query field box.
To carry out an "AND" type of search, select two or more different fields to search.
To carry out an "OR" type of search, select the same field in two or more of the drop-down menus.
